Rick Hafele and John Smeraglio will be providing an hour and half on the river look at the insects of the lower Deschutes River. If you are curious what insects are there for trout to eat, this will tell you. Rick and John will also explain how the hatches have changed over the last 15 years of Tower operations as well as some fly patterns you might want to try. Held at the White River BLM campground.

New to fly fishing? Maybe you want a quick review on the basics delivered with your learning style in mind? Fly Fishing 101 will cover equipment for trout fishing, Basic overhead, roll casting and off shoulder casts will be covered in addition to a few helpful tips to help you send that loop with confidence.

According to Oregon State University, there are at least 26 different species of fish in the lower Deschutes River, including native redband trout, summer steelhead, spring and fall chinook, and bull trout. Anna will offer you some simple keys to identifying these resident fish in the lower Deschutes River.

You’ll learn the basics of backing, running lines, heads (Scandi vs. Skagit), tips, leaders, and flies, what they do and how they all work together.
Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting a clearer, more confident approach to Spey setups.
