CASTING CLINIC (9:00AM-1:00PM)

Come spend the morning with FFI-certified casting instructor Mary Ann Dozer of Fly Fishing Pursuits getting right with your rod. She, or her fellow FFI-certified instructors, Marti Loeb and Lisa Amato-Craig, will help you take your cast to the next level, and make sure you have fun doing it. Take home materials included. Punch your $200 ticket for this Friday morning session here. Can’t make it Friday? Another half-day session is slated for Sunday morning. Sign up for the Sunday session here.

Mary Ann is a former licensed guide and current FFI-certified instructor who’s spent 20 years helping others discover the joy of casting. Her Process Engineering background drives a practical, technology-forward teaching style that makes learning accessible to everyone.

Build the Perfect Deschutes Fly Box (4:00-5:00PM)

Join Amy Hazel and Rick Hafele as they walk you through a day on the river, and reveal how to put together the perfect trout fly box. Where else in the world can you hear from one of the premier entomologists and angling authors, teamed up with one of the lower Deschutes River’s most experienced guides? A must-see.

TROUTFEST TRIVIA w/ Grayling Education (5:00-7:00PM)

Can you describe fluvial and pH as well as phenotype? Whether you know or don’t come have fun and learn about freshwater ecosystems, fisheries, and fish species. Assemble your dream team for a chance to win fabulous sponsored prizes in this free community event from 4:00-6:00pm.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT (7:00-9:00PM)

  • Guido and Sumner Rahr of The Takes take the stage: at the intersection of rock riffs and folk music lyricism, several of the Rahr Brothers’ tunes also evoke the sights, sounds and good vibes of the many days they’ve spent along the Deschutes. They’ll have you smiling—and possibly dancing.

  • Delicious food from the Riverside and Roll’n Dough Pizza

  • Refreshing beer from pFriem & Freebridge and cider from 2Towns.

SATURDAY, MAY 30

RIVERSIDE ENTOMOLOGY (9:00 - 10:30AM)

Rick Hafele and John Smeraglio will be providing an hour and half on the river look at the insects of the lower Deschutes River. If you are curious what insects are there for trout to eat, this will tell you. Rick and John will also explain how the hatches have changed over the last 15 years of Tower operations as well as some fly patterns you might want to try. Held at the White River BLM campground.

CASTING DOCTOR (10:00AM-NOON)

30-minute, 1:1 session with FFI-certified instructor Mary Ann Dozer of Fly Fishing Pursuits with the goal of identifying one fault and one fix for participating anglers. Purchase your $25 slot here.

VENDOR BOOTHS (11:00AM-4:00PM)

Walk the grounds and check out the latest and greatest innovations from the fly fishing and outdoor industries. Reps will be on hand to answer questions and let you test drive the latest and greatest rods and related gear. Local NGOs working in the conservation and fly fishing fields will also be available to share their work.

BEER GARDEN (11:00AM-CLOSE)

Enjoy refreshing beers from pFriem Family Brewers and Freebridge Brewing or a cider from 2Towns, as well as delicious lunch and dinner from the Riverside. pFriem, Freebridge and 2Towns generously donate the proceeds of beer sales in order to keep this event free and open to the public. Thank you Rudy & Steve!

EXPERT DEMONSTRATIONS (NOON-5:00PM)

Seminars on the hour, every hour. Whether you’re mildly curious or totally flummoxed by the array of choices to make on a given day of fishing, floating, or getting to know the river better, there’s something for you at Saturday afternoon’s informative, entertaining sessions. From entry-level fish identification to nuanced expert demonstrations, our presenter lineup will help you know the river better, and enjoy it more!

BACKING UP A DRIFTBOAT AND TRAILER CONTEST (5:00-6:00PM)

You may have been born wired to see the boat ramp backwards, or you may have had to learn to maneuver with mirrors through harrowing experimentation and training. Either way, here’s your chance to earn the title: First Ever West Coast Driftboat Launch Champion. The course will feature one turn, (executed in reverse) and a stop beyond the turn marked by a pylon. The one who put the stern of the boat closest to the pylon without knocking it over will be in the running for the title. 2007 Toyota Tundra, 16’ Willie Boat on a rusty but reliable trailer provided.

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT (6:00PM till finished)

Few things are as fun to do on a stretch of grass than tossing beanbags at a slanted board with a hole near the top. Grab a partner and a frosty beverage. One point for bags that land on the board and three for “airmail,” the bags that go in the hole. Prizes for the duo that trumps all the others.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT (7:00-9:00PM)

The Greg Haller Band will take the stage as the daylight fades. The alt-country themed trio will play a scintillating mix of covers and original tunes for you to tap your toes on the grass and raise a glass to the sunset.

Delicious food from the Riverside and Roll’n Dough Pizza

Refreshing beer from pFriem & Freebridge and cider from 2Towns.
